unfurl unfurl Add to Discord

Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2, 2026

By adding unfurl ("the bot") to your Discord server or interacting with it, you agree to these terms.

What the bot does

unfurl is a Discord bot that automatically processes social media links posted in your server. It replaces them with embed-friendly versions, strips tracking parameters, unwraps AMP links, cleans Amazon URLs, converts YouTube Shorts, and optionally bypasses paywalls through archive.is.

Usage requirements

  • You must comply with Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
  • You must have the authority to add bots to the server where you invite unfurl.
  • You must not use the bot to harass, spam, or engage in any illegal activity.
  • You must not attempt to exploit, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the bot's operation.

Permissions

The bot requires these Discord permissions to function:

  • View Channels - to read messages containing links
  • Send Messages - to post cleaned URLs
  • Embed Links - to send formatted responses
  • Manage Messages - to suppress embeds on original messages
  • Read Message History - to handle edits and deletions
  • Add Reactions - to add undo reactions to bot messages

If required permissions are missing, the bot will notify the server owner and may leave after 24 hours if permissions aren't restored.

Service availability

The bot is provided "as is" without guarantees of uptime or availability. We do our best to keep it running, but:

  • The bot may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance or updates.
  • Third-party embed services (fxtwitter, kkinstagram, etc.) may go down independently.
  • Discord API changes may temporarily affect functionality.
  • We reserve the right to discontinue the bot at any time.

Fair use

The bot is designed for normal server use. We reserve the right to restrict access if a server generates excessive load or uses the bot in ways that degrade service for others.

Free and paid tiers

The bot offers a free tier with core functionality. Paid features (safe browsing checks, short URL expansion, dead link detection) may be available. Pricing and feature availability are subject to change.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • The bot is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
  • We are not liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the bot.
  • We are not responsible for the content of linked URLs or third-party embed services.
  • We are not responsible for any actions taken by archive.is or other third-party services the bot integrates with.

Intellectual property

unfurl and its associated branding, code, and documentation are owned by the bot operator. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the bot without permission.

Termination

You can stop using the bot at any time by removing it from your server. We may also remove the bot from your server or restrict access if these terms are violated.

Privacy

Your use of the bot is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what data we collect and how it's handled.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the bot after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Contact

For questions or concerns about these terms, reach out via the bot's support server or email support@unfurl.bot.
